Wes Game - Let's do business

'We have been running exhibitions for over 15 years . The first exhibition was in Hastings (15 years ago. Eastbourne is in its 10 th year and Brighton its 7th year. This year the exhibition dates are:

  • Brighton – 12 May
  • Eastbourne - 30 June
  • Hastings - 29 September

We are delighted to have Levi Roots of Dragons Den and Reggae Reggae Sauce fame speaking at the Brighton event and Declan Curry known for presenting BBC's Working lunch at Eastbourne. This is the first time that Let's Do Business has had keynote speakers and we are really looking forward to hearing them speak.

At the Brighton and Eastbourne show we will also have 2 free workshops 'The Digital Garage' from Google. Sussex Business Bureau will also be running their popular speed networking events at both shows. The speed networking events will have limited spaces so will need to be booked in advance at http://www.sussexbusinessbureau.co.uk/speed-networking/lets-do-business-brighton-eastbourne-hastings/. Places at the Google workshops and the keynote presentations are free and do not need to be booked.

Our advice for people exhibiting at this years' show is to make your stand as interactive as possible. I am really competitive so really enjoy games or competitions – other people like things that are more low key. Experience tells us that the more people put into their stands the more they are likely to get out. In my previous role I used to work with small businesses and sole traders helping them set up and establish their businesses – so I understand that people buy from people . Exhibitions are a great way of starting that initial dialogue with potential clients and suppliers.

I worked as a business analyst before I joined Let's Do Business so know that one of the main benefits for exhibitors is the opportunity to meet people face to face. Small businesses spend a lot of time trying to get appointments with people but at an exhibition people are always happy to talk and network with others.

I go to a lot of local and national business shows – it is good to see how they run and I pick up ideas and inspiration for developing Let's do Business.

There are still some exhibition stands available for the Brighton show (as at 24 March) for details visit http://www.letsdobusiness.org/brighton/book-your-stand-now/

Once businesses have booked a stand we do encourage them to use social media and e-mail to publicise the fact that they are exhibiting at Let's Do Business. We re-tweet mentions and provide exhibitors with our logo to add to their e-mails

The best advice I can give any small business is to remember that there is no 'magic answer' when you run your own business – you have to knuckle down, work hard and stay focused'
